ENA Portal

The Energy Networks Association (ENA) represents the UK and Ireland’s transmission and distribution network operators. The Smarter Networks Portal is a central hub for information about Ofgem-funded innovation projects in the UK's energy networks.

Mentor Digital maintains and develops The Smarter Networks Portal, where you can see details on current projects, find partners and propose ideas for all network companies to review and consider. The portal's features include: 

  • Complex forms and workflows to facilitate innovators pitching their ideas
  • A comprehensive project search that surfaces relevant information to members
  • Details on the scope, location, costs, and partners of each project 
  • Industry-wide aggregated dashboards showing the progress of each project
  • Events and news to keep members informed

ENA's Innovation Portal

Mentor Digital won a competitive pitch to take over the portal, complete a comprehensive code review, and oversee the Business As Usual (BAU) activities.

The code review process was rigorous and systematic. We used a combination of automated tools and manual inspection to examine the entire codebase, implement the fixes required before taking over the website development and hosting.

The portal required upgrading to modern specifications, as well as the inclusion of new functionality and a data cleansing exercise. We redeveloped the project form submission process, member dashboard framework, redesigned the Home page and streamlined the portal’s navigation.

We are currently working on major updates to the project search and listing functionality and will be facilitating user research groups, to drive portal enhancements, and ultimately, network innovation in the UK.

Since Mentor Digital have been leading our platform development, they have improved the navigation and content, firstly by working with us to identify our 7 different user types and then engaging with them to develop a nuanced and customised user experience.
